Waxed canvas:

Waxed canvas repels water and is durable and lightweight, making it the ideal fabric to protect your tools. To provide proper care to the canvas, the waxed canvas should never be dry cleaned or machine washed. Wipe off the loose dirt, rinse the surface with plain water, scrub gently with a brush and let it air dry. If stains persist, use a mild soap.

Over time or after cleaning, the canvas must be waxed again. Use a wax conditioner for this.
